MYRTLEFORD midfielder Shannon Foden heads a list of youngsters being rushed into the Goulburn North East’s open women’s team for this week’s clash with Metro Eastern.
While Foden brings Melbourne premier league experience to the squad, a spate of omissions has forced coach Atila Kerestes to also bring four under-15 players into the squad.
Wodonga Diamonds attacker Michele Bent has been given the call-up along with Cobram Victory’s Ashleigh Snijders and Shepparton South pair Jacklyn Lombardozzi and Brittany Patafio.
Their inclusions come after the loss of five players in the holidays for illness and personal reasons.
Bent’s inclusion comes after scoring a double for the GNE under-15s in their 5-0 defeat of Metro Central last week.
She’s currently sitting third on the league’s goal-kicking table with five goals from five matches.
Foden, 18, comes into the team after playing a pivotal role in Myrtleford’s championship-winning women’s side this year.
Kerestes said Foden’s inclusion was a big coup for his side as it aims to turn around a two-game losing slump.
“We’re very pleased to have (Foden) on board,” Kerestes said.
“She already has premier league experience so will have the composure and confidence needed to perform at this level.”
Foden was one of four Victorians recently selected as part of the under-19 Australasian Futsal Team to travel to China.
Futsal is the FIFA-approved indoor version of outdoor soccer.
Kerestes said it would “be a big day for them”, but felt the under-15 representatives were up to the task.
“They’re coming into the team after some really good form in their age group,” Kerestes said.
