Cycling Australia has announced that the Australian Mountain Bike Championships will be held in the Alpine town over the next two years.
Alpine Shire Council Mayor Peter Roper said the town was chosen due to its ability to accommodate a large number of people expected to attend.
"Alpine Shire Council has aspirations to secure a reputation as the standard for national, and potentially international, mountain biking," he said.
"Securing the Australian Champs is a huge step in achieving our greater ambitions for the sport in the Alpine Shire.
“We are looking forward to working with Cycling Australia and the mountain bike community to run a successful event."
