Wangaratta-based artist Linda D’Agostino took out the $600 acquisitive art award at the launch on Friday night for her water colour Hills, Huts and Vines, which depicts a verdant King Valley resembling Tuscan countryside.
Meanwhile, Belinda Schrickker won the inaugural award for her piece Big Joe in memory of the late Wodonga artist Jenny Toole, who had entered into every St Augustine’s competition. Schrickker had only started painting in the last year after a health scare, without any formal training.
Grade 5 student Natt Watnatawaphat, 11, who settled in Australia this year from Thailand, won in the student category.
The school is showcasing 57 artists - a whopping 200 paintings will be on offer for sale.
The exhibition will be open all weekend - from 10am to 3pm Saturday and 10am until 2pm Sunday.
