The A grade event was a tough fought battle between Kilpatrick, who was paired with teenage Wagga cyclist Myles Stewart, and fellow Wagga competitors Henry Wright and Charlie Hamilton.
The 100-lap event featured a sprint every 10 laps for points, requiring tactics, speed and endurance.
It was’t until the 50-lap mark of the approximately 44-kilometre event that Kilpatrick and Stewart started to open up a lead, which ultimately couldn’t be beaten on the final lap.
“I tried to do a lot of the work and sling Myles into the race for the sprints because he is a lot quicker than me,” Kilpatrick said.
“Charlie Hamilton and Henry Wright challenged us the whole way.”
The win capped off an excellent season for the 53-year-old, who also claimed this year’s Hume Veterans Cycling Club aggregate championship.
