Purtell was suspended for six matches at the Cricket Albury- Wodonga tribunal on Thursday night. Four of those matches will be suspended.
Purtell, the District Cricketer of the Year, was given out lbw as the Phoenix closed in on its target and reacted by smashing the stumps.
He was reported for bringing the game into disrepute and also for damaging equipment.
The suspension will not apply to the twenty20 competition.
Meanwhile, in Provincial cricket, North Albury captain Greg Daniel is under investigation by the code of conduct commissioner after an alleged incident during last week’s grand final loss to Wodonga.
CAW operations manager Dale Blake would not reveal any details about the alleged incident.
“It has gone before the commissioner and I don’t want to influence the investigation,” he said.
“The evidence will be chaired and the commissioner will likely come back to us within 14 days.”
