No player had the impact Brodie Filo did at Wodonga Raiders, prior to parting company last week.
His mentor at Raiders, the highly-credentialled Daryn Cresswell, labelled him the best he's coached.
IN OTHER NEWS:
There's stories that footy fans would drive a few hours just to watch Wangaratta Rovers' five-time Morris medallist Rob Walker.
Filo was the same, and you can throw Brendan Fevola in there too during his Yarrawonga 'Fevolution'.
That duo was bigger than the 176cm midfielder, but Filo could do things that neither were capable of.
He kicked 61 goals and you could safely say, with a handful, you will never see better at this level.
One against Lavington last year was phenomenal.
Filo received the ball near the centre square and while running sideways, almost off balance, drilled a shot from around 50m. It was physically impossible.
Myrtleford's co-coach last year Terry Burgess, the 1983 Morris medallist, compared him with any from the modern era.
He played 45 games, but a broken jaw in round 14, 2017, robbed him of five matches.
It probably cost him the Morris Medal as he finished joint runner-up, only two votes behind Albury's Chris Hyde.
But Filo's red-hot form continued and he claimed the league's highest individual honour.
However, his crowning moment was soured when he misbehaved, jumping off the stage and falling over. He later apologised.
O and M general manger Sean Barrett says the incident won't count against Filo.
"There wouldn't be anything from the league that would exclude him from being selected, we'd leave that up to the Hall of Fame committee and support their decision," he said.
The Hall of Fame has been a wonderful success.
"It's for outstanding representation as a player or service to the game," chairman Ron Montgomery said.
Players have to be retired for three years and given Filo is only 29, he could have years left, but it will be interesting to see if he's inducted.
