Around 247 native trees and shrubs had just been planted at a roundabout in Bacchus Marsh, around 60 kilometres north west of Melbourne CBD, when the alleged crime occurred.
Police believe the plants were stolen from the Werribee Vale Road and Halletts Way roundabout any time between 8pm on June 17 and 7am on June 18.
Investigators are hopeful the plants will be recovered and have called for any information from the public.
Native plants were used throughout the roundabout garden including Casuarina Glauca 'Cousin It' and Acacia Cognata 'Limelight'.
The plants were worth $2250, the Moorabool Council said.
